Shipboard TrainingPOGO has been supporting various shipboard trainings over the years. Currently, POGO in partnership with the Nippon Foundation, is supporting several young scientists to take part in the “Floating Summer School”, on the North South Atlantic Transect (NoSoAT) cruise. Since 2008, POGO has offered special Visiting Fellowships for on-board training on the Atlantic Meridional Transect (AMT) cruises.

NF-POGO Centre of ExcellenceIn collaboration with the Nippon Foundation, POGO established the NF-POGO Centre of Excellence in Observational Oceanography, now hosted by the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research. This is an intensive training course for young professionals at the post-graduate level, ten months in duration, with an intake of ten trainees per year.

NF-POGO Alumni Network for OceansThe Nippon Foundation and the Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans have created a network of former scholars of their joint programmes on capacity building. The global network is called the NF-POGO Alumni Network for Oceans (NANO) and is organised into Regional Coalitions.
