|University of Cape Town Postgraduate Bursary|
POGO bursaries are a valuable supplement to the very limited funding available for post-graduate students from other countries in Africa to study Marine Science at the University of Cape Town, where there is a Masters degree in Applied Marine Science that includes Operational Oceanography as one of its main components. There are a number of bursaries available for South African citizens, but very few for students from other African countries.
The Applied Marine Science Masters programme at the University of Cape Town is an opportunity for students to undertake an exciting, broad-based, multi-disciplinary degree in marine science. The course is intended for an array of people ranging from students who would like an overview of the various disciplines related to marine science, to professional scientists, where practical skills are required, often in a management context.
The programme involves coursework, research, operational oceanography, field trips to explore the marine, geological, climatic and biological diversity around Cape Town, and a student-organized, weekly seminar that deals with the scientific, engineering, economic and ethical aspects of global warming and related issues.
