Hjort Summer School 2017 – Bridging Methods in Marine Science: From the Lab to Models, 11-16 Aug 2017, Bergen (Norway)

Accompanied by lectures, students will conduct lab experiments and link them to modelling experiences using examples highly relevant to the changing marine environment of today like mixotrophy, zooplankton fecal pellet production and carbon export. Students are also asked to prepare a poster-presentation of their own research. Upon completion, they receive a course diploma with a recommended 3 ECTS.

EcoAqua Third Summer School, 4-8 Sep 2017, Funchal (Portugal)

This edition of the summer school course will provide the participants a solid overall understanding of basic and applied aspects of Marine/Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP). This course will follow a holistic approach to MSP, addressing stakeholders’ involvement, maritime sector’s needs, marine environment conservation, national / international legal aspects and finally, applicable data management.

The course will provide a forum for exchange of know-how and good practices between experts and participants.

The new call for the PhD Programme in Earth Science, Fluid Dynamics, and Mathematics - Interactions and Methods (University of Trieste) is now open. 


OGS will support a scholarship on the project: “Coupled hydrodynamics-biogeochemical modelling for marine environment monitoring and forecasting European services”

Using the Copernicus Marine Data Stream for Ocean Applications

As part of the Copernicus Programme EUMETSAT, on behalf of the European Commission, is organising a blended training course on “Using the Copernicus Marine Data Stream for Ocean Applications”. The workshop will mainly focus on data from the Ocean and Land Colour Imager (OLCI) and the Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR) both flown on the Sentinel 3 Satellite. The online phase is scheduled 23 October – 27 October 2017

The classroom phase in Accra, Ghana, will take place 06 – 10 November 2017
